The Whole-Baked Café

"The Whole-Baked Café is very popular and a good resource for the community. The atmosphere of the Café is welcoming and it is evident that the service users enjoy the training provided, and enjoy the social interaction it provides. New premises are currently being sought to house the project within the same proximity.

Service users gain qualifications on completion of their course and 23 certificates in five categories were awarded for the year ending December 2009:

2 – ASDAN ‘Workright’ Award

2 – CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene

5 – OCR Entry Level Certificate in Adult Literacy

6 – OCR Entry Level Certificate in Adult Numeracy

8 – City & Guilds Certificate in Skills for Working Life (Hotel, Catering and Retail)

From evidence gathered from the sources described in the first section of this report, the service users thrive as a result of the training and support provided. It is evident that the manager and the training staff are very skilled and committed to the development and promotion of this service."
Bristol City Council Planning and Comissioning Manager

The Whole-Baked Café has been in Old Market since 1988. We supply innovative, healthy food at competitive prices and provide vocational training for people who have learning difficulties.

We are open on weekday lunchtimes from 12.00 – 2.00, and have a daily changing menu of soups, main courses, salads and delicious desserts. We believe in real food and substance over style, using seasonal and local ingredients.

Our menu always includes meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Because all our food is prepared on the premises, we can tell you exactly what’s in it: staff will be happy to help if you have particular dietary requirements.

Our gallery space is available by the month to local artists, photographers and community groups – contact us to check availability. We also have a community noticeboard for local groups and organisations.

Fairtrade

The Café sells Fairtrade tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
